It’s a new year which means it’s time to start thinking about a new you!
For whatever reason, the start to a new year seems to open up a new chapter in us. I love it when clients come in to the salon excited to make a change or update their look a bit. It’s still winter, so hair color trends aren’t evolving a ton at the moment, so fear not if you haven’t done something completely drastic. BUT this is a great time to start thinking about what type of hair you’d like to start rockin this spring or summer. January may be the perfect time to start slowly working towards your new hair to come…
Here are some of the hottest hair color trends at the moment. Use them for possible inspiration for the “new you” in 2011!
Ombre hair. Still Cool?
Ombre hair is one of the biggest trends in hair color I’ve seen in a long time. This look has taken over Hollywood for sure, and though it’s been around for a little while now, girls are still coming to the salon wanting to achieve this “rooty” look. I do love it, BUT I feel like it’s beginning to play itself out a little. It’s such a dramatic look, and it’s a bit much when you see so many girls with the same exact hair color- dark roots, light brown mid shaft, and blonde tips. I don’t want to discourage you if you still love ombre hair and want to try it out. Instead, I encourage you to put your own flare to it, kind of like Whitney Port’s hair in the picture below…
Whitney’s hair has a more natural rooty look, however she has very subtle golden blonde highlights through the top, some bright bits around her face, and then the ends of her hair have been tipped out and are really bright. I love this take on ombre color! This is a great look for this upcoming spring, and can still be quite low maintenance too. To read more about ombre hair color, check out my blog post here.
Shiny Chocolate Brown… Yum.
This tone of brown is stunning. It’s a medium to darker brown with just the right amount of gold, red, richness, and shine all packed in one color. Chocolate brown looks great on olive skin tones and if you have darker features. If you’re bored with the current brown hair you have, ask your stylist to vamp it up like these photos. Time to become a sexy dark haired vixen!
You RED My Mind.
Khloe Kardashian just shocked us all by becoming a red head. It takes a lot of guts (and time) to go from dark brown to this tone of red, and I give props to her and her stylist. I think this color is beautiful, and similar to a lot of the copper red heads I’ve been seeing lately. People are leaning more towards an orange based red color rather than a violet based red color. If you’ve been dabbling with the idea of going to the red side, maybe 2011 is the year to do it… just sayin…

Goldy Locks.
Bleached out hair take a back seat! The new blonde is golden and healthy. Don’t get me wrong, I love my bright bleach blondes, however, at times the color can look dated, really unnatural, and potentially trashy. Sorry to say it, but when you have bleached out fried hair, you’re not putting your best foot forward, and it’s your poor hair that’s suffering! Golden blonde highlights are so beautiful and a great alternative to your typical bleach highlight, and I think we will see a lot of it this summer…
Best of luck on your quest to hot hair this year

So true about the ombre hair, it is everywhere in LA although it’s taking a while to hit SD. I loved the subtle ombre you did to my hair last year (kinda like Whitney’s above). I am excited for our next meeting, I’m thnking more honey and blondie tips!
