New Years Eve & Sexy Holiday Hair

Christmas is only a week away, and New Years Eve is less than 2 weeks away. If you’re like me and way behind schedule this year, you probably have not even thought about how to style your hair for these special occasions. Lucky for us, I finally sat down and found some great ideas to keep us looking good for all of these parties. I have pictures, tips on how to recreate the looks, and I even included one of my “how-to” videos I filmed with FOX that shows how to do a really cute hairstyle. Don’t worry ladies, I got you covered.

*Get Sparkly*

I LOVE hair brooches and I think every girl should own at least one. These are the perfect sparkly accessory for NYE. Any sort of hair up or hair down style will instantly look dressier with a brooch. Just get creative and play around and see where it fits best in your hair style. And if you’re struggling, ask a friend for some assistance. One trick I’ve done is used a piece of jewelry as a brooch. If you have something that may look cute, you can glue a hair clip on the back of the pendant and use it in your hair!

*Up-Do With A Twist*

What these up do’s have in common is that they are a bit on the casual side. You don’t want to look TOO done up for a holiday party, and a loose up-do looks effortless yet chic.  You will need a curling iron, bobby pins, hair spray, and a small hair tie ( I like the “no snag” clear hair ties that you can buy at Rite Aid or Target) for this look. Start by adding some texture to your hair with the curling iron. Spray your whole head with some hair spray. This is the foundation to your up do style.

To get Lauren Conrad’s Hair: Divide your hair into 2 sections, as if you are going to do a half up half down hair style (from ear to ear), and clip up the top half of your hair to move it out of the way. Start with the bottom hair and divide it into 2 sections. Take 1 section, wrap it around messy in to a loose bun, and stick bobby pins into it until it feels secure. Do the same to the other section. Once the 2 messy buns are secure, take down the other half of your hair, and divide it into 3 sections ( leave out a few small sections around your hair line to finish the hairstyle). Do the same sort of messy bun bobby pins thing, and pile them low on top of the bottom 2 buns. Once your style is secure, take those few little pieces you left out around your hair line, twist them, and bobby pin them underneath your hair.  Then you can curl the little hairs that fall around your face, just like LC’s hair.

To Get Jessica Alba’s Hair: Part your hair to the side, and french braid your fringe on each side of the part ( just the hair in front of your ears and leave out the rest of your hair). Finish the braid all the way to the end of your hair and secure it with a hair tie. Once braids are in, you  can pin up your hair into a loose style. You can take the ends of the braids, and pin them around your style to create flair. If you can’t french braid, try duplicating the style, but with just a regular braid on each side… looks just as cute!

To Get Audrina’s Hair: Create a deep side part in your hair, and pull all your hair to one side of your head. Secure it in low, loose side pony tail, and pull out a few pieces of hair around your face. Take the pony tail, and break it into a few sections, wrap them around, and bobby pin them up until you have a side messy bun. Once secure, you can add a few soft curls to the hairs you left out around your face.

*Go Natural-ish*

If you have naturally curly hair, the last thing you want to do sometimes is spend forever blow drying it straight. Especially with unpredictable winter weather, if it starts to snow or mist, your smoothed out style is screwed. My best advice to every girl with curly hair is to wear it natural, but help it out just a little bit. And if you’re feeling wild, add a sparkly head band like Taylor Swift! Note: If you recently visited the hair salon and your stylist gave you an amazing blowout that you’d like to maintain for a few days, check out my story, “How To Make Your Blowout Last For Days”.

How To Go Natural: Wash and condition your hair, and use a little leave in product for the frizz, and let it air dry. Once dry, take a few sections throughout your hair and curl them with a curling iron. This creates a fabulous texture to your hair, and you will have tons of volume too.

*High Pony*

Wearing a high pony tail can be so sexy! Pair it with some flashy earrings and you’re good to go! This style isn’t just a regular ponytail though. It’s high, has volume, and looks as if it’s held in place by your own hair. With your hair off of your face, I suggest wearing your make up a bit more dramatic than usual. Don’t get carried away, but a smoky eye or a bright red lip looks incredible with this sort of sleek hairstyle.

Hey Sherri… Loving all of the fabulous holiday hair tips. What type of brush are you using to tease in your video? It looks like it works great for the tease and the smooth. Thanks!

    • Sherri says:

Thanks Heather! The brush I’m using in the video is a mini boar bristle brush. It’s great to tease with, and is gentle on the hair. You can purchase one at a beauty supply store, or possibly even Sephora!
